ESKİHİSAR
ABOUT ESKİHİSAR

Eskihisar is the name of the shortcut for many people to cross the Marmara Sea only. However, when you visit the town, you will encounter an interesting museum and castle. Osman Hamdi Bey, an artist and archaeologist of the 19th century, was influenced by his beauty and chose this place as a shelter and gave many of his valuable works here. Now he lies in his forgotten grave in Eskihisar.

In the 19th century, the wealthy Istanbulites generally had two houses; one is the house where they live in the winter and the city is inside, the other one is on the island or on the sea shore like Eskihisar, where they will enjoy the breeze blowing from the sea ... Osman Hamdi Bey (1842, who founded the Istanbul Archeology Museum and the Istanbul Fine Arts Academy (today's Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Academy). -1910) spent the winter in his house in Kuruçeşme near Arnavutköy, and the summer in Eskihisar. The death of Osman Hamdi Bey, who has gained an international reputation in science and art, has continued his influence in our country and in the world for a long time. He spent most of his life in Eskihisar, where he settled and loved him in 1884 and was buried here after his death. Many of the gravestones in the graveyard where the grave is located have a style that resembles the gravestones of the Beçin / Milas-based Menteşeoğulları Principality, which reigned in the Middle Ages.
